About
Kimberly (also known as KURA) is a printmaker and textile designer influenced by Japanese art, culture and personal experiences.
With a focus on Japanese culture’s impact on modern society, their work combines traditional techniques with modern design to create distinctive patterns and textures. Kimberly celebrates traditional craftsmanship within a contemporary framework, where each piece reflects a passion for complexity and artistic diversity.
This collection is inspired by bosozoku gangs, known for their modified uniforms and symbolic embroidery. The project incorporates elements such as the eight virtues of bushido and hanakotoba, embedding symbolic messages into the designs.
KURA seeks to revitalise traditional garments for the modern world, merging cultural heritage with contemporary expression and conveying emotions of personal identity through intricate, meaningful motifs.
